We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Materials Engineer to work within our R&D Center; Semiconductors. The Senior Materials Engineer is responsible undertake project related activities within R&D focusing on IGBT Power-Module packing materials: research, experimentation, design, testing and documentation. The role is responsible for carrying out research to an internationally recognised standard and providing reports. The Senior Materials Engineer will possess an in-depth understanding of Polymers, Encapsulation, silicone gel, plastics, epoxy, solder materials and the ability to characterise and analyse materials.

Other:                           Hours: 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday -Thursday and 8.30am -4.30pm on a Friday (one hour unpaid lunch).

The Role

The Senior Materials Engineer will possess an in-depth understanding of Polymers, Encapsulation, silicone gel, plastics, epoxy, solder materials and the ability to characterise and analyse materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake project related activities within R&D focusing on IGBT Power-Module packing materials: research, experimentation, design, testing and documentation
  • The role is responsible for carrying out research to an internationally recognised standard on engineering materials and corresponding process for high power IGBT/SiC modules
  • Providing written and verbal technical reports and presentations on work done as appropriate
  • Present data so that it can be fully utilised by the business
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and health and safety
  • Material recommendation for high power electronic applications
  • Undertake other adhoc duties as requested by your line manager or Director.
  • Must demonstrate dedication and achievement in achieving continuous improvement across their key activities, procedure and test facilities to characterise the materials in collaboration with the materials laboratory

 

Core Skills

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in a material Science or an Engineering subject closely related to this field
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of Polymers, Encapsulation, silicone gel, plastics and the ability to characterise and analyse materials
  • Some experience on Chemical Encapsulation/ sealing material evaluation and analysis
  • Have a working knowledge of ISO and ASTM material standard test methods
  • Strong scientific experience on fundamental material analysis method, i.e. physical, chemical, mechanical analysis and advanced microstructure analysis
  • Professional membership is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of bonding between two dissimilar materials (polymer, metal and ceramic materials) and the measure the bond strength in terms of their reliability
