R&D Centre: Assemblies - Variety
Exciting times are ahead as we continue to grow and prosper as a business. We are continuing to invest and increase our manufacturing and R&D capability significantly. The Electronic Assemblies team is currently working on a project to design, develop and produce a power inverter for electric and hybrid vehicles. To aid in the success of our project we are currently recruiting for a variety of roles.
The successful applicant will be involved in simulating drive systems, investigating electrical responses, power electronics system design scheme analysis, test planning, circuit analysis and optimization. You will also be expected to enter into dialogue with customers regarding technical details or drawings and specification. You will have mechanical design and gate driver experience with a good understanding CAD and EDA design tools.
Converter Engineers are responsible for the development and product release of DC/DC converters for electric vehicles and/or hybrid electric vehicles (xEVs). You will gain the opportunity to work on developing converters including high voltage battery to 12V low voltage battery converters and bidirectional DC-DC power converter between two high voltage potentials.
Electronic Engineers and Group Leaders
This is an opportunity for a hardware engineer with control hardware design experience on electric machine control or electrified transmission system in electric/hybrid vehicle applications. You will work closely with software engineers and gate driver design engineers to successfully develop a control board. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, verification and validation of the control board. You are expected to have knowledge of inverter control processors for xEV.
Software Engineers and Group Leaders
This is an opportunity for a control software engineer with control design and programming experience on electric machine control or electrified transmission system in electric/hybrid vehicle applications. Main responsibilities include outline design of EM control strategy and algorithm, digital signal processing and control system designs, embedded software programming and design based on DSP microcontroller, set up of instruments and control hardware on site and provide specifications for the hardware PCB circuit development.
Gate Driver Design Engineer
You will work closely with power electronics, system and mechanical design engineers to successfully develop gate drive board for power semiconductors. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, verification, and validation of the gate drive board. You are also expected to have thorough knowledge of how power semiconductors work and how the gate driver could keep the power semiconductor operating safely and efficiently.
Mechanical and Thermal Engineers
The successful candidate will be involved in the setup, running, analysing and reporting of thermal / mechanical testing/characterisations, use simulations and formulate design recommendations, guidelines and solutions, Interact with cross functional teams in design, process, new product definition, marketing, assembly, applications and provide support and guidance with thermal, electrical and stress challenges.
EMC Engineers and Group Leaders
You will provide system level support on EMC areas to the Power Electronics team. Responsibilities will include review and tailor EMC requirements to meet specified product performance and E3 compliance, develop models and simulation for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli and create simulation and test plans, reports and guidelines.
Reliability Engineers and Group Leaders
The successful candidates will work on conducting systems and sub-system reliability activities. These include organisation plan for the design, participating in designing high reliability PCB assemblies and electronic assembly products, Production of FMEA’s, Conducting reliability tests to check performance and provide reports on your findings.
Key tasks will include the development and co-ordination of test plans in line with prototype products and systems completions, whole testing and systems testing administration, liaise closely with Project Managers and the engineering team as appropriate to contribute to the successful completion of the agreed compliance, legal and H&S quality standards, contribute to the delivery of projects and take ownership for specific responsibilities as requested and manage test schedules, timings and to proactively trouble shoot product and system technical issues as appropriate.
Functional Safety Engineer
You will gain the opportunity to develop technical safety concepts for next generation powertrain system with full safety features for hybrid or pure electric vehicles (xEVs). You are expected to have advanced skills in functional safety standard ISO 26262 together with experience in its practical application in product development. As a Functional Safety Engineer you will work across the systems/electronic/software engineers, develop both functional and solution specific safety concepts and coordinate safety analysis and techniques.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Degree or PhD in one of the following subjects; physics, power electronics, electrical and electronic engineering
- Thorough and detailed understanding of high power semiconductors
- Direct experience of a wide variety of design modules of automotive power assemblies
- experience in electrical automotive power products, design or test
- Familiar with the power electronics application and motor control systems
- Technically minded, and a good problem solver
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office package)
