We are currently looking to recruit a Principal Hardware Engineer (Controls) to work within our Electric Vehicle team. Principal Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the control hardware development, implementing hardware and architecture design, evaluating control hardware limitation based on project requirements & functional safety requirements. This role will also be responsible for the hardware development of the next generation.

Other Information:      Hours; 8:30 – 17:00 Mon -Thurs and 08:30 -16:30 on a Fri (1hour unpaid lunch).

The Role

Principal Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the control hardware development, implementing hardware and architecture design, evaluating control hardware limitation based on project requirements & functional safety requirements. This role will also be responsible for the hardware development of the next generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and participating in model-based hardware development from high level architecture design through to implementation, setting up the work flow and conducting various analysis according to the requirements of automotive industry standards
  • Improving internal development process, reviewing and managing documentation to the appropriate level
  • Adjudication and approval of MCU oriented hardware design, schematic and PCB review, component selection review
  • Leading development of the next–generation control hardware platform meeting the functional safety requirements
  • Provision of requirements input for design, analysis, simulation, and testing. Provision of input for the generation of technical specifications, proposals and other documentations
  • Ability to present constructive ideas to both customers and internal teams
  • Ability to conduct speculative research on certain technical issues
  • Support to the head of department in determining technology roadmap and specifying development milestone
  • Mentoring of engineering staff and helping grow the technical capability of the team
  • Actively corporate with other colleagues, organize meetings to discuss critical issues, update and progress in time with the awareness of timeline
  • Teamwork with embedded software engineer to specify hardware architecture
  • Support functional safety engineer to evaluate functional safety performance of control hardware
  • To maintain effective working relationship with core members, guarantee efficient circulation of technical information among departments
  • Actively communicate with external suppliers, universities, research institutes and clients, keep in line with the cutting-edge technology and future trending technology

 

Core Skills and Education

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in electronics/ electronics related discipline
  • At least 7 years hardware development working experience in automotive Tier 1 supplier or OEM
  • Familiar with NXP or Infineon processors and peripheral circuit design
  • SPI, CAN, FlexRay or Ethernet etc communication circuit design
  • Sensing signal interface, filtering, amplifying circuit development
  • Familiar with resolver, encoder etc rotor position decoding circuit design
  • Familiar with ISO26262 hardware design and analysis
  • Excellent capability of selecting electronic components, reading datasheet, sufficient experience on adjudicating the optimal solution
  • Familiar with schematic and PCB design
  • Comprehensive experience on PCB design considering multiply trade-off factors
  • ASIC circuit development experience
  • Desirable Technical Skillset
  • JLR Grade Experience
  • Familiar with CPLD, FPGA circuit design
  • FMEA awareness
