The Dynex power semiconductor business was originally established in
Lincoln over 50 years ago when it was known as AEI Semiconductors
Ltd. At that time, the business introduced some of the first silicon
based power semiconductor components in the world. Since then it
have acquired the power semiconductor interests, technologies and
products from such major names as GEC, SGS-Thomson, Alstom and
Marconi Electronic Devices Ltd (MEDL).
All the power semiconductors in the Dynex range are manufactured from raw silicon to finished product on site in Lincoln, UK. The company possesses its own purpose built wafer fabrication department in Class 10 cleanrooms for the critical process of diffusing the silicon. In addition to manufacturing discrete power devices, Dynex is experienced in designing and manufacturing assemblies of semiconductors and heat-sinks in precision clamp arrangements to meet customer requirements. Dynex has been a major supplier of GTOs into the world railway traction market over the last decade. These devices have been supplied for use in mainline propulsion units, auxiliary power supplies and light rail projects. Some of the railway traction projects to which Dynex has been a supplier include:- - British Rail Class 87, 90, 91, 317, 319, 323 & 465 (Networker) - Manchester Light Rail (Metrolink) - Docklands Light Rail - SNCF TGV, Sybic (BB72200 & BB92200) - Nantes and Lille Tramways (France) - Lyon Metro (France) - Eurostar - Caracas Metro (Venezuela) - EMUs (South Africa) - Seoul Metro Lines, C & D - Helsinki Metro (Finland) - Bay Area Rapid Transport (BART) - North East Corridor (USA) - RATP Paris Metro - Brussels Metro - Nightstock - TGV Korea - Bakerloo, Central and Victoria Line refurbishment of London Underground Rollingstock - NEDTrain Dynex has also supplied various companies with devices or assemblies for use within trackside rectifier substations on rail networks throughout the UK, France, Spain and India. Experience gained from the manufacture of original equipment for the traction industry has meant that Dynex has also become involved in numerous refurbishment programs whether they entailed upgrading the assemblies, replacing devices or servicing the assemblies after the prescribed time in service.
